 | | A while back, I had a long stretch of being sick. While I was recovering, I got the itch to do something crafty, but I didn't want to move around much. So I made some scrappy papers.
I started with a couple standard card-sized pieces of white cardstock (I bought a whole pack of them at Goodwill, not realizing that they were only card fronts). Then I covered one in scraps of paper from my bag of blue scraps. Usually, I tear the edges of the scraps to avoid straight lines, but this time I just slapped them down as they were.
Next, I embossed the piece with a wave-patterned embossing folder.
Lastly, I brushed the piece with Pearl Turquoise Lumiere paint. More got into the lower areas than I wanted, so I brushed it again with Halo Blue Gold Lumiere paint, being careful to just coat the raised areas.
The piece sat around my craft room for awhile, until I got enough inspiration to create a card with it. I fussy cut the mermaid image, and glued her to a piece of light blue cardstock. Then I cut her out with an oval die, before using a slightly larger die to cut out an oval of darker blue.
After I assembled all the layers, the card still seemed to need something else. Since the mermaid appeared to be looking at something, I added a sparkly gem that reminded me of a bubble. And it was done!
I have soooooo many paper scraps that I can't make myself throw out, and it felt really good to use some of them up. |
