 | | Years ago, one of my nieces went through a phase of absolutely loving flamingos, and I bought this beautiful Graphic 45 paper collection to make cards for her. I haven't used it much since then, but I immediately thought of it when I found out that we were challenged to get tropical for this week's Tea Party.
I started with the main panel featuring a flamingo. Then I found a coordinating piece of paper to put behind it. The foliage patterned paper is actually facing the wrong way -- it's designed to be used horizontally instead of vertically. Fortunately, so little of it shows behind the main panel that you can't tell.
I wanted to add a flamingo sticker, but it's translucent, so I had to put it against a background that would look okay with some of it showing through the flamingo. So I searched through my pink paper scraps until I found a piece that was the right shade of slightly orange pink to match the flamingo on the panel.
I die cut an oval from the pink scrap, before cutting a slightly larger oval from a green scrap to create a frame.
After assembling all the paper layers, I glued down the flamingo sticker. Because it was glossy, while the rest of the card was matte, I decided to add a few more glossy elements to achieve balance. So I glued down three leaves from the same sticker set.
This was a great challenge! It's still very cold here, with a prediction of more snow coming, so I enjoyed thinking tropical thoughts. |
