Ribbon Hiding a Seam
Added to Favorite

Photo Details
Poster: susanbri

WT1091 = Ribbon - I used ribbon to hide a seam on the embossed panel.

For my focal panel, I laid down some light colour on heavyweight printer paper which I find works better for the faux batik technique than regular card stock and gives more subtle results. I then stamped the holly with Versamark and heat embossed in clear embossing powder, then crumpled the paper, and then sponged over it with darker shades of green. I trimmed it, used a sheet of double sided tape to stick it to cardstock to give it strength, then layered over a dry embossed background. Because my background panel was 5" wide and the embossing folder is only 4.25" wide, I had to run half of it through the embossing folder, then the other half, so I ended up with a messy bit in the middle - I covered that with a strip of ribbon.

Here's a tutorial for the faux batik technique if you're interested:

Wow the faux batik square is so beautiful and pops against the pretty embossing, the ribbon hides perfectly the seam

What a beautiful card! Ribbon is always really good for covering seams, and besides it's pretty on your card.

Your faux batik came out really nice. I can't count the times I've used ribbon to cover a seam and agree it is a handy trick.

The faux batik panel is stunning with its soft crinkles and layered greens, and it creates such a graceful contrast against the holly embossing. The ribbon feels like a natural finishing touch, adding polish while seamlessly solving the folder‑width issue.

Yep, that's a favourite way of mine to solve the problem of an embossing folder or stamp being narrower than needed. Lovely faux batik panel.

What a great idea to cover the seam, Susan. Lovely embossing and technique. Beautiful Christmas card in my favorite color. Hugz
