WCW284 - Make a Wish

Kia has us painting Chinese Lantern flowers in the Watercolor challenge; the tutorial is by Olga Timofeeva.

I love Olga's dark colors of her background, but I went with a busy background instead (it was part of a leftover piece from this week's color challenge). These were fun to paint, and I plan to come back and try them again when I can add more shading and depth. After the painting was dried, I added a doodled border and some berries.

The Chinese lantern plant is supposed to bring good luck. If I grew these flowers, the deer or rabbits would eat them for sure.

Very pretty, Nancy. I like your doodled border and the berries. I don't believe I have ever seen a Chinese Lantern flower in real life. I will have to look them up and see if they grow here.

How fun to use up what you had leftover, Nancy. I see lots of whimsy in this painting and I really like that! The black berries for instance and the splatters, plus the shapes and bg patterns look whimsical. Very well done~

Your background is very cool, Nancy, and a perfect piece to repurpose for your cute lanterns. I love their whimsical look, and I think berries are just the thing to accompany these cute autumn flowers. I sooo want to grow some next year. I love their skeleton look with the berry inside once they break down!

I loved to see this in the gallery. I just picked all mine last week before the weather got to them. If they would be as invasive for you as they are for me, I doubt the deer could keep up with them, LOL.
