Layers of ink
I made a night-time scene with a spooky tree, vellum ghosts and an inked, stamped and stenciled background. You can use the background techniques for other themes too.
Tear a printer paper as a mask and ink the hill with an ink-blending tool. Use the other torn paper to mask the hill and ink the sky. Ink through a stencil for a pattern. Stamp a tree.
Stamp the hill with a crackle stamp. Die cut trees, vellum ghosts a silver moon, bats and glue to the background.
Add sentiments, gems, fibers and cheese cloth.
