 | | I got a little carried away with this card. It's big! But, to be fair, the dragon I wanted to use is also quite large, and looked cramped when I tried to fit him on a smaller card.
I love emeralds! And the color emerald makes me think of jade, and that made me think of Asia, which made me think of this dragon from Jolee's. I bought him ages ago, and have been hoarding him -- I guess that makes me a bit of a dragon too. Except instead of gold and gems, I'm sitting on top of a big pile of craft supplies.
Anyway, if you can't use a treasured item for a Tea Potter exchange, when can you use it? So I pulled him out. Then I went in search of green papers to go with him.
I found the piece of green paper with writing on it first. And, while the dragon did fit on it, he looked cramped. So I expanded the background to include the larger green paper and the strip of vellum. After years of struggling, I'm finally learning to use vellum, thanks to many of the great examples I've seen on this site.
One of the main things I've learned is that brads are a handy way of attaching vellum to other papers. I was going to use regular brads, but then I remembered these long ones that I recently got in a bag from the thrift store. I'd never seen brads like that before, and initially wasn't sure how I'd use them, but they worked perfectly for attaching the vellum strip.
The rest of the assembly was pretty standard. Lastly, I earned my cookies (yum!) by adding a few green gems to some empty areas.
Side Note -- You might notice the gold brads on the dragon's body. He came that way, and they allow you to move his legs, tail, and crest. |
