 CT0125 - Faux to the Finish - January 2025

Cook22 sent me a tutorial link for faux heat embossing back in November, and I got around to trying it today.
Faux Heat Embossing Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

Since tomorrow January 27th is National Chocolate Cake Day in the U.S., I decided to make a birthday card featuring chocolate cake.

I used the faux heat embossing technique using clear packing tape to make the sentiment shiny and the icing on the cake shiny. This is the same card - I included two photos because the one on the left is more accurate for what it looks like in real life, and I used the flash when I took the picture on the right to show the shiny effect. It still didn't pick up the icing on the cake which also has clear packing tape on it.

I like orange and turquoise as a color combination, which also works well for masculine cards. Here I started with lined orange patterned paper for the background, die cut with wonky stitching all the way around.

I stamped, colored, and die cut the mouse, his chef's hat, and the icing bag. I stamped and colored the cake, and then fussy cut with scissors (it has 3 layers and I only used the bottom layer). I stamped the icing a second time on turquoise cardstock, added the clear packing tape over top, and then ran this through my die cutting machine with no dies, just to have the extra pressure seal the tape down. Then I fussy cut the icing and added it onto the cake.

I added clear packing tape to turquoise cardstock and used a word die in my die cutting machine. I adhered this to the card and added the icing bag as if it had just finished spelling out the words. I added the mouse and cake to the card. I used a black gel pen to give the mouse shiny eyes. As a last minute thought, I added the icing from a cupcake die as a dollop of cream on top of the cake, since it looked very plain.

For the word die, I searched online and could not find which vendor I purchased this from, since I no longer have the original packaging. If anyone happens to recognize it, please let me know and I will update my supply list for this card. Thanks!

Adorable. I love how you placed the icing bag like it was just finishing up. That's a great touch as is that dollop of cream you added last minute -- great idea. I see the sheen in your second pic as well. I bet this looks wonderful IRL. Your colors are versatile and this could easily be for a gal or guy. Fun card.

I don't recognize the die. There is a thread in the forums for help identifying stamps. Maybe they can help with dies too. Here's a link: Need Help Identifying a Stamp? Post photos here! by UnderstandBlue at Splitcoaststampers

Sweet card! Love how you rocked that technique, especially for the frosting (I would not have thought of that, lol!)!

Oh my gosh, I missed National Chocolate Cake Day! Bummer.

This is such a great card and a great technique too, Mer. Fun cake and fun critter.

These are so sweet, Mer! I always forget this packing tape added before die cutting technique. Thanks for the reminder!

What a creative technique! The sentiment and icing are really shiny in person! Such a neat idea. I love the little mouse and all of the die cuts. Someone is sure to get a good smile out of this card. Thanks for sharing it with me, too. --Amy
