 | | This was a lot of fun! Dina gave us the technique of a kimono card for the MIX today. I'm also going to include this for today's F4A, taking a page from Sharon's book. I like to create every day of the year, no matter the season. Lately, I've been sitting outside and doing Zentangle.
In 1993, I visited Japan and a highlight of the trip was going to a large department store on the Ginza in Tokyo and seeing beautiful displays of kimono for sale. After we returned home, we received a photograph of a wedding, everyone dressed in kimono. The bride also changed clothes two other times, first a white wedding dress, next a ball gown. Amazing!
I used an SU dsp which has a little sheen to it. I put some skinny double sided tape on the edges and added some champagne gold glitter and also stamped a small floral stamp in purple and clear embossed. I also added a little bird charm because often, men would hang an inro box on the obi (belt or sash), held shut by ojime (a bead), complete with a decorative element called a netsuke (pronounced net-ski). The netsuke were usually made of ivory, metal or wood, carved into animals forms. Kimonos never had pockets and I guess women didn't wear anything like the inro or netsuke on their obi. Of course they didn't; it was a patriarchal world. No jewelry was allowed unless you were Samurai. But my young woman who is wearing this kimono is wearing a netsuke...so there!
I did create the little card inside but it isn't finished yet.
Thanks for the challenges today! I've never done this tutorial. |
