For today's Free 4 all - Giovana is asking us how we celebrate Birthdays - cards, boxes etc.
I used to make all kinds of little gifty things, but lately it's mostly cards for the birthdays.
A friend requested a birthday card for her granddaughter Ava who is a dancer and will be 11 next month.
I totally cased a card by Biggan (Birgit) - who hasn't been active here on SCS since 2021 - but has the most beautiful gallery - and I had saved her card and bought the stamp after seeing it in her gallery.
I stamped her on a panel of watercolor paper in black ink. then colored her hair and skin with copics. I made a mask of the stamping and laid it over her so I could sponge around her in the Brushed Corduroy Distress.
This is the first time I've actually made the little 'tutu' to layer over the stamping. I didn't know how Birgit made it - so I fiddled around with a 1" squares of dotted vellum, folding two corners in, trimming here and there.
The vellum was clear with white dots but looked kind of gray over the stamping - so I colored over the vellum squares with an R11 (light pink) Copic which gave it a lovely light pink tint!
The vellum is a little stiff, so when I ran over each fold with my bone folder it held the fold tight so it looks dimensional.
I glued 5 of the folded vellum pieces over the skirt just gluing the back - extending the skirt to the hands. I cut around the left hand and arm with an Exacto knife so it sits over that piece of skirt.

How adorable! I love both yours and Birgit's cards. This is perfect for the dancer and I am sure she will love it.
