Our youngest grandson asked me to teach him to sew. For his birthday, we're giving him a gift certificate to make the sewing project of his choice and this sewing box. I made his card trying to match his sewing box.

Can this gift be any more precious, Christine? I love that he asked you for this. I love how you embraced his desire and encouraged his learning of a skill that is becoming less and less a basic part of life. Even if it doesn’t lead to anything more than the basic skills, those are gifts in and of themselves.
Years ago, my teenage son created a binder with a graphic of Batman at the stove in an apron with a frying pan in his hand. He asked if I would fill it with family favorite recipes for his birthday, that he could take to college. It was one of those touching life moments. However, when he called me at 2 a.m. (school had a 3 hr time difference) to ask how to make oatmeal cookies for some of his friends who were over, I was not as touched, LOL Those moments take a little more time to ripen, especially when calls at that time almost give you a heart attack!
