This is for today's MIX-stop and remember; and Wednesday's WCW-painting a poinsettia.
I really enjoyed the WCW video. She really created a beautiful poinsettia that has so much transparency. I loved her color choices; alas I don't seem to have a very good red, need to remedy that. I did two of these; this huge one got out of hand so I did a small one too (to be seen later) but I think I like the large one better. Of course I didn't follow her directions, forgot to keep the center open. I know mine isn't as transparent as hers but I'm happy with it.
Today's MIX is about a memory. My Mom loved poinsettias, was very good at keeping them alive for a very long time. I never thought they looked that great once the season was over but she did. My Mom had a friend named Helen who started a secret prank with my Mom. Helen had the worst looking plastic poinsettia and she and Mom would trade it back and forth, having it suddenly appear in each other's window boxes. Gosh, it was ugly, but so funny. Both Mom and Helen have left this earth and I miss them very much.
Thanks for the challenges!

the red I have that I use the most is Windsor & Newton Red ( its a real red color to my eye) I love this the transparency of these petals comes through beautifully Jean

This is beautiful! Love the story as well. Once upon a time I had a great spot for planting left-over poinsettias and getting extra foliage enjoyment. Not here though.

With all the multiple layers this is reminding me of a Christmas cactus, though I do know it's meant to be a poinsettia. I can't see the video, so mentally I can't combine the goal of transparent petals with the rich vibrant colour of poinsettia, which may be why my mind goes towards the more delicate cascading cactus. It's beautiful , and a great sentiment to go with it.
