These days, for many, defining a family is difficult. It isn't for me. A family is whomever you want it to be.
Families have always had interesting characters, some who don't get along, some who lack boundaries, some who think differently from each other. For example, we have a family member who is a Viking fan...but we let him marry our sister. I know, that is silly and not helpful. This weekend I spent some time with my good friend's family and I asked if they had adopted me. 'Yes' was the resounding answer. I have several friends who are closer to friends than their birth family, in fact quite estranged. I can't imagine how that feels. And I think a family can be one person.
I think love and respect are the two most important aspects of a family. Susan (one4joy) used this same stamp a while ago and I told her I needed to own it too. The faces of family are so varied, I like the fact that there are no features and that their garments are stitched together. Even if the stitches tear, they can always be stitched back together. And a family always gives each other roots and wings. I used two stash backgrounds; the main one is unknown, maybe sprays, the hearts are cut from a background that was gifted to me. Thanks for the challenge, Pam.

I agree, family is anyone you want it to be. I have always called my brother's best friend my little brother. It was about 2 years ago that my son said, "mom, is uncle James really my uncle" and I had to explain the family relationship to him. LOL! Yes, he is my little brother. Great card to send to any "family" member.

A wonderful card depicting family and love, Jean! That is a great stamp, love the roots, so apt. I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on family and love, too!
