Diane is our hostess in the Color Challenge this week, and she has given us our first opportunity to use some of the new Stampin' Up! colors on our cards this week. The colors are Berry Burst, Lemon Lolly, and Shaded Spruce. The dessert option this week is flowers, but alas! no dessert for me this week.
My card is an unabashed CASE of (and homage to) our own Lydia/Understandblue, who posted a video this week showcasing the technique for this card. It totally captivated me, and I had to give it a try. My card is not an exact copy, since I used different inks, different stamps, different pencils, and different colors for my butterfly, but the cards are like fraternal twins--they're not identical, but there's definitely a family resemblance!
I started out with a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of white cardstock, and placed Post-It Tape along all four sides. Then I used Distress Oxide Ink in the lightest yellow color to ink-blend the rectangle. While the tape was still in place, I randomly stamped various patterns from several stamp sets that are in my stash. I used Vintage Photo archival ink, but stamped off before stamping most of the patterns.
I removed the tape, placed the panel in my MISTI, and stamped the butterfly. Leaving the stamp in place, I removed the panel and colored the butterfly with Polychromos colored pencils in colors close to Berry Burst and Shaded Spruce, plus a little Lemon Lolly as well. I used gamsol to blend the pencil colors.
When that was done, I put the panel back in the MISTI and stamped the outlines of the butterfly again. This really makes the image pop!
I added the sentiment and some white dots with a gel pen, but no additional layers or embellishments. This is a CAS one-layer card, perfect for mailing. I really had fun with this technique, and encourage you to try it. Thank you, Lydia, for the video and teaching the techniques.
I hope everyone will come and play in this challenge. These colors are so pretty!

this is so pretty Barbara- thanks for all the info on how you created it- love the different techniques you bring to the color challenge. I had to laugh at your "fraternal twins" remark!

This turned out so beautifully. I really love the different stamps you used for your background. And that butterfly is bold and beautiful. Being a fraternal twin, I had to snicker at your comparison.
