This is my ATC for the Dallas calligraphy club Artist Trading Card swap--ATC the World. This month we made Egyptian-themed cards.
I wanted DH to do his calligraphy on the papyrus, but he said it would be hard. We were supposed to have the Egyptian greeting on the card. He shortened it to an English *Peace*. For a change he did the calligraphy first and I had to design my card around it.
This camel stamp was in my Christmas stash. I envisioned stamping them to look like kohl so I dug into the archives and found my black craft stamp pad. It was as black as I had envisioned. The Sumi ink on the calligraphy was not as black as I had hoped.
I started by masking and sponging the desert, then added sky and pinky clouds. The Papyrus curve follows the curve of the stamp. It needed something in between, so I added another Cinnamon Cider stripe.
The top of the card is painted with gold Smooches. The striped strip was in my stash, so I cut it to be 1/4 inch.
I wanted to finish it with some grainy sand on the desert. I got out the Judikins Jasper EP, but it was too shiny when I heat embossed. However, it was perfect sand when I glued it on and didn't heat it. Dusted the desert and the bottom edge with it.
