I cut a panel of watercolor paper to A2 size, & ink blended a heavy amount of Pine Needles Distress ink along the bottom. I spritzed the panel with water, & tipped it upside-down to get the water & ink to flow towards the top of the panel. It took me a few times of doing this process to get the look I wanted, but I'm happy with the way it turned out in the end.
I die cut the cardinal pieces from scraps of red, orange, & black cardstocks. I glued those together, leaving off the feet layer for now. I die cut the thanks word from a "failed" inky technique piece, & die cut the shadow from white cardstock. I glued those together, & glued the bird behind the "n."
After I adhered my background to a card base, I glued down my bird/thanks piece. I glued the feet on the front of the "n," to further the illusion that the cardinal is sitting there. Finally, I added a highlight to the bird's eye with a white gel pen.
