This week we are sending cards to a school in France, sharing with the children information about where we live or where we are from. I've been a WI girl all my life and wouldn't have it any other way. I used today's sketch.
I used the brick ef because right down the block from me is Lime Kiln Park, where I gathered the weeds etc. that I used on my gel print and where there are still two kilns existing. I did direct to paper with the white on the crumb cake because lime stone is white. This was probably the first industry here when German settlers came here. But before that, Chippewa and Menomonee (means wild rice) Indians lived here, probably right where my house is. There are burial grounds not far from me. We are called the Badger State because of our mining industry (Badgers burrow in the ground).
On the inside, I have a fun greeting about cheese, another thing we're known for, as is France. I also included a stamp that says 'we are all one.' I'm also going to include a little write up about Wisconsin and my hometown. I'll try not to be too 'teacher-y' about it. Thanks for these challenges, great idea for the teaparty!

Awesome representations of your State and I love all the personal connections you wrote about in describing this. I knew you were the Badger State and that the Badgers were the mascot for your University, but I didn't know where the label came from. Interesting to find out. I'm so enjoying learning about everyone's homes. Great card and another fun lesson for these kids.

Lovely mixed media card celebrating my second favorite state! I have that same Lavina badger stamp...alas no gopher stamps in my collection. Will you be including explaining what a cheesehead is? Perhaps you could make a little sketch...lol.

This so very attractive and just loaded with information about your home state! Very well done! I enjoyed reading all that you wrote in your description.

Great card! I lived in WI as a kid and a bunch of my relatives still live there. I have family in Viroqua, Sparta, Boyceville, Chippewa Falls, Hayward, Janesville and Hartland. I went to UWL my freshman year of college, too. Loved living in Lacrosse!

Creative and fun, Jean. Love your images and that very cool brick EF in the background. Beautiful. Love all your details and explanation and they are going too as well.
This made me think they are also going to get a lesson in card making as well - most people have never seen the variety of cards we all make. This will be fun for them!
