Loved Lydia's video! Believe it or not, I only recently discovered Lydia's YouTube channel. Just the other day, I did some binge watching of her tutorials. One of the techniques that intrigued me was adding an "unexpected color" to a watercolored image. I see that in today's WCW video, she used that same technique.
Today's card shows some very simple watercoloring. Only four colors were. The techniques are "add an unexpected color" and "adding shadows". I also used what I learned from last week's challenge -- Painting a White Flower. For that technique, I got the koala image fairly wet then added drops of pigment then moved then around with a brush. Once dried, I added shadows using undiluted pigment. The unexpected color can be found on the arm and leg.
This was a very fun challenge. I'm going to give it another try tomorrow except this time, I'll paint something a little more colorful.
Enjoy!

Wow!!!! This is incredible with the no line technique. The added unexpected colors really draws the eye to your koala. Thanks for your detailed deets on how you did this. You took the challenge and created a fantastic painting. Fav'd TFS

Yes, I have tried that one, another fun thing to try is using the brownish distress ink for stamping and letting the image blur a little and making it vintage with the blues added here and there, that one is fun too. I can see your blues in his body and the greens in the trunk

Wonderful job of adding shadows and contours to that koala. You managed to keep his darling facial expression which is sometimes hard to maintain with no line coloring.

Oh, your card is adorable and I saw the blue immediately. That was a wonderful video from Lydia...one where a person can learn many lessons. I love the shading on your koala. So glad you learned from last week's challenge, also. All these tutorials are so helpful in learning to watercolor.
