As an adult, I have always loved 'kid art.' One of my favorite things at the Wisconsin State Fair is the display of art from kids all over the state. I often wished I could own some of the pieces. Did I love art as a kid? No sirree, I did not! I was very intimidated. No one in particular made me feel that way; I made myself feel that way. I'm so happy I got past that eventually.
This past month, I went to a flea market in St. Germain, WI. I was walking past a crafty little booth, not something I would want to buy, when I heard this little voice say 'I have my own booth.' Here was this cute little boy, maybe about 6, sitting at the end of a long table, cash box in front of him, but I couldn't see what he was selling. So I stopped to chat with him. There was a basket on the table at my end but his sign had fallen down. In the basket were two designs of stickers...the one on this card and then another one of a sunset or sunrise (his words). When I asked him some questions about his stickers, he was talking in language that I still don't talk in...focal point etc. Well, I couldn't walk away without buying one of each of his stickers. So that's the little rainbow at the top. I give his Mom, who had the crafty booth, a lot of credit for letting him chat with me and not interfering. When I gave him the money, he said to her, 'I sold something, I sold something!!'
The only art I really loved as a kid was scratch art. You can't make a mistake and it's always fun to see what colors emerge where. I bought this scratch art paper a while ago, not for my grandchildren but for me so I made some scratch art to go with Archer's sticker. I was channeling Matisse with my figures. I could play with this paper all day long. Thanks, Pol!
