I really like the dog and cat together on the card and the sentiment related to friendship, so I kept both of those in my design in a completely different way.
My dog and cat image are stamped, which I colored in with alcohol markers, rather than punched out of DSP.
My color scheme is red and blue compared to green and yellow. My background is plaid rather than small x's.
I ran out of room on the front of the card for a sentiment, so I stamped the inside instead, which also relates to friendship like the original card:
"Friends make life pawsitively wonderful!"
To construct my card, I cut the blue layer with a scallop rectangle die, and left a small white border all the way around when attaching to the card base. Then I added the red layer and the plaid layer.
I hadn't intended to use the white oval but placing the colored image directly against the plaid paper was too busy, and the image did not stand out enough.
The bed that the critters are sitting in was paper pieced with a coordinating paper from the same paper pad as the plaid paper.
I got a good chuckle out of CAR372's description on the original card that they thought all dogs were boys when they were a young child. I had a boy dog growing up and I too thought all dogs were boys (my dog is a boy, so therefore all dogs must be boys - makes perfect sense!).
The original card was uploaded for the Free For All - Pet challenge, which I also participated in at the time, using a different image than I have used here.

This is such a great case of the inspiration card. I love the friendship aspect of the dog and cat. Sadly, my puppies and cats are not friendly. LOL! I love the designer paper you used and the color combination. Your Copic coloring is wonderful!

Oh my gosh, this is precious. Love the image and that plaid grabbed me. Fab case.
