Today's video artist Joann Boon Thomas is showing some basic negative watercolor techniques. She makes it look effortless but I DID struggle a bit with this technique and would like to try it again during our monsoon season so perhaps my paper would stay wet long enough for the colors to do more blending.
I did start a practice piece with stamped flowers BUT quickly realized that through the learning curve, the simpler the shape the better! So sketched the same butterflies the artist was painting and got much better results. This challenge took me out of my comfort zone but I am happy with the results.

You have done an amazing job on this. I don't know if I will find the time today to try this, but have enjoyed seeing the work of others.

Linda, this is just beautiful. I just don't see how you can do it better. Love the butterflies and colors. It makes a fab birthday card.

Beautifully done! Your butterflies have enough detail to look like they could fly off the page! Very pretty colour choice too! I always watch the tutorials and never try the technique. Ha, ha!

You really created the negative painting with flair. It's beautiful, and I actually like the pink better than the red she used. Thinking of you today. We have it hot and humid here today. The lake is not even helping. Glad you went out of your comfort zone and gave us this beautiful painting. TFS
