This is my annual attempt to make a Mary Engelbreit-esque card for my fabulous niece, Kelly, who does truly have a big, generous heart. I have seen a lot of flowered filled hearts recently and when I went to Mary E.'s website for inspiration she also had one with her signature black and white checked frame. I thought these Spellbinder flower dies had a whimsical look similar to Mary E. flowers and so this is where that all led.
I die cut a heart to place all the flowers on and then I used two of the dies to cut a heart frame. I simply filled in squares with a black copic to create the checkered look. I decided the black panel needed some texture so I used my favorite EF: Weathered. The sentiment is actually a curved stamp, but since it's polymer I did my best to straighten it out for this banner. It was straight til I inked it and dropped in onto the paper. At that point I saw that errant "y", but the more I tried to straighten it out, the more it rebelled. So an errant "y" it is. I was going to trim the flowers to keep this A2, but the blooms look so sweet hanging off the side, I decided I should make larger envelope for this instead.
I know my niece always appreciates that I attempt this style just for her. And, it warms my heart that she knows I am doing it out of love. TFL and I hope today you engage in something or with someone who warms your heart too.

Your niece will adore this card. I definitely get an Mary E. vibe from your colorful heart combined with the B&W checks, black background and color palette.

So fun, Debbie! I still have some M.E. magazines! didn't know she still had a website. Love your colors and quite genius to get the black and white framing ala Mary. A wonderful and thoughtful birthday card for your niece!

Beautiful design. The die-cuts in the heart, the check heart band, and the EF in BG are all perfect. Extended flowers and banner headlines are both excellent ideas...
