Happy birthday to someone special - my Grand-Daughter is turning 7 this month! I made this card for her and for a card sketch challenge that had the optional challenge to use scraps... and I DID!
The critters on this card were not stamped, but instead die cut from scrap pieces of the Stampin' Up! (SU) designer series paper (DSP) "Birthday Bonanza". I had used pieces of this happy paper for other cards and had plenty of partial pieces to choose from! The lion, koala and toucan were all designs on the pieces and fit the SU "Bonanza" dies perfectly! For the toucan and the koala I cut two extra blank outlines and glued them behind them for added dimension. The lion was a little different since he cuts out in four pieces. So I cut an extra blank mane and tail tip, and two extra faces and glued them behind and stacked,,, sort of like paper piecing. I love the dimension stacking creates on a card! There was no die for the koala's balloons, so I fussy cut them out and backed them with foam tape to raise them to the same level as the koala.
The banner background, which is part of the challenge sketch, was created from scrap pieces of cardstock that match the DSP. No virgin pieces of cardstock were cut to create this card... not even the black card base or SU Coastal Cabana front panel!!!
The sentiment is from the SU "Counting Sheep" stamp set. It is stamped in black at the bottom of the card. I'm using the leftover banner scraps to decorate the inside of the card, too!
I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5" because the dies fit the animals so well, and it was super easy to create the banners with the SU "Banner Pick-A-Punch" which has three different width banners to choose from (1/2", 5/8", and 1").
My Grand-Daughter will love this card!
