This card was created for a card sketch challenge whose theme is "watercolor". When I think of water coloring for some reason I think of the seashore. Coincidently, I recently purchased the Stampin' Up! (SU) "On the Horizon" stamp set and matching dies.
I started out by using my SU re-inkers in a wide assortment of blues and browns to swipe across a gel press pad in horizontal pattern pattern. I had sprayed the gel pad liberally with water before I started. I then laid a piece of white watercolor paper across the pad and pressed gently. To make sure the colors blended and covered the whole sheet of paper I tilted the paper from side-to-side and sprayed again. After that, I let the wet paper sit overnight to dry thoroughly.
The next step was to use a stamp positioner (like a Misti or Stamparatus) to stamp the beach grass and birds on the water colored sheet. Don't remove the stamps, because you will use both again after the sun and grass die cuts are glued to your card.
I created the sun as a hazy kind of feel to match with the water color theme. I used a blending brush with orange and yellow ink on a sheet of white cardstock, then picked the part of the blended color I liked most and die cut a circle for the sun.
The weathered beach fence was created using a light gray cardstock on which I stamped the SU "Weathered" background stamp with darker gray ink. I then chose two areas I liked the crackling pattern most and die cut the fences using the SU "Horizon" dies.
I then glued the sun over the flying birds and the fence over the beach grass and stamped both again a couple of times. Remember,,, you didn't change the position of the stamps in your stamp positioner, so these should line up perfectly with the images you stamped on the water colored image before you glued down you die cuts. This technique is called "eclipse stamping". You can find a video tutorial on this for sentiments at: https://www.jennifermcguireink.com/2...-any-dies.html
The sentiment is from the same stamp set as the birds and beach grass. It was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
The watercolored panel was then given a more watercolor look by running the entire panel through my Big Shot inside the SU "Painted Texture" embossing folder. I've also posted a closeup of the card front to show the wonderful texture it has.
Finally, the card front was trimmed to 4-1/2"x 4-1/2" and mounted on a medium blue sheet of cardstock that measure 4-3/4"x 4-3/4" so it would fit into a 5" envelope.
I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5". A stamp positioner is MANDATORY to achieve the eclipse stamping done on this card.
