More Christmas cards to do!! This card's original design idea came from my Stampin' Up hostess duo's 2020 Covid Christmas Card Make-It @ Home Kits, by Dar Peterson. It was time to get this last card finished and posted. I tweaked the card to fit the ideas circulating in my head: enlarged the card, tweaked the dove placement, added more gems, more silver foil, and changed-up color layers... explanations below:
I scrapped the white cardbase, changing to the dove's Roccoco Rose and enlarging the card to 4-3/4" x 6", which I prefer. I enlarged my border layers to 1/4" on the bottom two color layers. I added a silver foil sentiment backing to coordinate with the silver olive branch in the dove's beak. I added three vertical rhinestones to the upper left corner, coordinating with those in the sentiment and the tiny metallic bow.
As I "tweaked and built" this card, its color scheme grew on me. At first, I wasn't sure I even liked it, though I loved the card design. Now, several months later, I actually really like it! Thanks Dar for the original card design and always encouraging us to change-up, tweak, and "build" our cards to fit our own creativity!
I wanted to play my traditional Challenge Catch-up cardmaking, so while building this card and thinking about those ideas in my head, I search for challenges that might fit. I found 13 mostly old challenge to fit, as follows:
1) AOCC21 - All Occasions Card Challenge - 8/1/21. One of six needed Christmas cards to build my stash.
2) USEIT2021 - Use It Challenge - 8/1/21. Requirements: Use forgotten, old stuff gathering dust from lack of use and/or new stuff bought at least a month ago and never used. (Old stuff: recycled foil saved from Christmas 2020 gift's commercial packaging. New stuff: In Good Taste November 2021...I'm using my first piece...fits the ABC challenge for "ugly paper."
3) CCC21JUL - Christmas Card Challenge/ Peace! - 7/1/21. Dove peace card fits to a "T!"
4) SCSCCAPR21 - Monthly Fan Club Christmas Card Challenge/ April Sketch - 4/1/21. Tweaked sketch: Added 3rd layer; oval shape to circle; sentiment strip lowered below oval and layered.
5) ABC14U21 - Alphabet Challenge-Round 14/ Letter U...Ugly Papers - 3/10/21. Not so fond of this dsp BG...a bit on the ugly side! I actually like the other 11 patterns in the dsp package.
6) S2S21MAR - Stamp to Save (aka Stamp 2 Support One Another)/ Pets - 3/2/21. This card features a lovely Christmas dove. It will be for my son and my DIL...she loves her birds and has 2 Cockatoos and 2 parakeets. (My son tolerates those "dirty, noisy birds," which she had before they were married!!)
7) DINSP0121 - Fan Club Monthly Theme--January 2021/ Snowed In! - 1/27/21. My card meets the central theme with its abstract "white-out" background blizzard achieved with the dsp BG patterned paper. Since this is a non-traditional colored card...the background blizzard colors are non-traditional as well! My card is for the Picture Inspiration challenge. I was inspired by the colors in the quilt!
F4A523 - Free 4 All Challenge/ Put a Bird on It! - 2/28/20. How 'bout a nice, pretty pink Christmas Dove?
9) IC711 - Inspiration Challenge/ The National Audubon Society - 7/20/19. I found this picture: Painted Pink Pigeons! They have been showing up all over the UK and are not a native bird of the UK. At first, it was thought th4y might be misplaced Pink Pigeons native to Madagascar, Africa yet that bird's coloring is darker with little or no white and is pink mixed with tan on its upper body and tan/brown on its wings and tail feathers. As it turns out, they were the white pigeons native to the UK that their owners had painted with fabric paint to avoid predators! True story!
10) MMTPT530 - Teapot Challenge/ Recycled - 9/18/18. Since I'm doing my Catch-Up Challenge cardmaking, and it is several years later, this will become a 2021 Christmas card rather than the tea party encouragement card for the original challenge request. I used some recycled silver foil from a package backing as a sentiment back layer and the olive branch die-cut. It has some scratch indents on it, but it doesn't really show as that is tucked behind the sentiment.
11) SC694 - Sketch Challenge - 4/18/18. I have tweaked the design just a bit. My dove is substituted for the overlapping rectangle, and the bow is substituted for #6. NOTE: The tiny silver metallic bow positioned on the sentiment layer top left corner, fell off before I got the photograph taken and is missing, which I discovered after posting! (I've since re-attached it to the card).
12) MIX254 - Mix-ability Challenge/ Africa-Inspired - 12/8/17. My pink Christmas dove aka a Pink Fantail Pigeon is found on the island of Mauritius off the coast of Madagascar (southern tip of Africa in Indian Ocean). It fits the challenge perfectly. Check it out by clicking the web link here: Pink Fantail Pigeon. (My mediums are: stamping ink, printer ink (inside verse), Black Journal pen.)
13) WT658 - Ways to Use It Challenge/ Tickled Pink - 10/19/17. My pink dove is my pink animal meeting the requirements of the challenge!

I am amazed at what people will think of. ( I've never personally had a bird but, my gma did when I was little and I cannot even imagine painting it) that is so pretty Carlene.
