Chris is our hostess in the Color Challenge this week. She has given us a bright color palette and (for me) a challenging dessert option. The colors are Real Red, Bermuda Bay and Basic Black. The dessert option is "weathered."
Thanks, Chris, for this challenge! I have been wanting to try my hand at creating a wood plank layer, using my embossing folder and sprays. I didn't get exactly the effect I was looking for, but I'm satisfied with my wood planks. A combination of Weathered Wood and several different brown shades.
I stamped the butterflies and then colored them with Polychromos colored pencils. The colors are close, but I was a bit disappointed that I wasn't able to achieve a true red with even the reddest pencils. I fussy cut the butterflies, covered all the wings with a Nuvo glitter brush, and glued them onto the white layer. This was attached with foam tape over the wood plank layer. One small butterfly on the wood, and it was done!
Thanks for stopping by, and please play along with us this week!

Barbara your fluttering butterflies are so pretty on the white background. I love how the scalloped edge fits diagonally across the card, a very creative design that fulfills Chris' challenge to a T!

Barbara, I love your idea of butterflies on weathered wood. The inks give your wood a real sense of richness and history The beautiful butterflies against this timeworn wood makes such a wonderful card. I'm so glad you worked through this challenging suggestion to get to this!
