This BG started out as an experiment with dry erase Markers and alcohol on very glossy paper. It was and wasn't working so I just started scribbling. I came across this previously embossed and colored cake and decided it would work with this technique. I originally die cut a scalloped corner, but there wasn't enough definition around the edge and I knew I would screw it up by adding a marked edge on the glossy paper, so I opted to cover the edge with pieces of doily scraps, therefore fudging on the intended technique. Added the embellishments: a punched fork, a snip of folded fabric. and a letter S sticker for my friend, Sonja. Her day is just around the "corner".

Well, Sonja is sure to love this bright happy birthday wish all wrapped up in a card. That is one lovely piece of cake with all the fun designs on each layer. I love your experiment of a bg -- it looks like a fresh field of tulips. The colors really stand out on the glossy paper. Using the doily was a smart choice -- both for the practical reason you cited and artistically. Fun fun happy card.
