CC847 - Two Thoughts

Photo Details
Poster: bejoyce

Jeanne is our hostess in the Color Challenge this week, and she has given us a beautiful palette, Fresh Fresia, Polished Pink and Old Olive, perfect for spring flowers. The dessert option is "jewels."

The first thought I'd like to share is to remember that if we don't have the exact colors mentioned in the challenge, we can use the closest thing we have. You'll notice my Fresh Fresia flowers are a darker shade of purple than the challenge color. I bought a few of these Penny Black stamps a while back, designed for "brushstroke stamping." And of course, I haven't used them! I wanted to use my Karin Pro markers, but even though I have a full set, there isn't a pale lavender color. I have to say the colors in those markers are so vivid! Since the technique involves coloring direct from marker to rubber, I went with the closest colors I had. After stamping, I went over the image with a waterbrush to blend the colors a bit. Went to bed last night, having decided to scrap this panel and start over this morning with something completely different. But when I got up, I decided to try to salvage the card.

Thought number two: Don't give up so easily! I got out my Polychromos pencils and found better matches to the challenge colors, and went over the entire image. That really helped, especially the purple areas. But then they looked so plain! Unable to know when to stop, I pulled out additional colors and added details here and there. I do like the result, but of course in the process the purple/lavender flowers got a bit darker. Please refer to thought number 1 above! LOL!

I did some light coloring with a gray pencil in the background, added a sentiment and some jewels (dessert!), distressed and inked the edge, and mounted on an Old Olive card base.

Thanks for stopping by, and please play along with us this week!

I love how you blended your colors- and I love the sort of abstract placement of flowers and butterfly- it all comes together to make a beauty!!!

what wise words, Barbara! And of course, everything can be rescued, perhaps not in an original intent...but rescued just the same. Your eye-catching card definitely has me interest in the CC this week. Thank you for your encouragement. Beautiful.

Barbara your write up is a crack up on referring to thought number 1! Your card is magnificent and it's always a great idea to sleep on it before completing or pitching the card, I do this often. There's something about walking away and coming back. This is beautiful and you've done a great job of using this week's colors in your lovely design!

I can totally relate to the first sentence in paragraph one. What you mentioned in that sentence, I do every week! lol. Anyway, your card is spectacular! The colors are bright and bold, and the image is so whimsical. Love how you persevered - it totally paid off!

A beautiful way to say "thank you", Barbara. Your card has such a lovely movement to it. The brush markers and water brush gave you great results.
