Thank you Cathy, for the Take the Scenic Route challenge. I like to think I always take the scenic route. Or at least notice something that will be a positive in my attitude (in the case of driving to work)! I know I have to draw from the wellspring within to hold on to a positive attitude.
I really wanted to create 'a breaking out', a blossoming. I chose to use an old wall (Technique Junkies) inked and embossed and rubbed with various hues to depict old. The young woman is pensive, drawing on the reserves developed within. She is pondering what brings her peace. I used a few Copics to color her lips and the ribbon on her head covering. The panel was torn by hand and embossed with the Mixed Metals ep. I used a piece of cardboard run through the Big Shot and then misted with water and embossed with the Anna Griffin ef. Stapled with gold staples.
Where do you find yourself again and again? Is it a special place, is it within a book, or perhaps surrounded by loved ones? I'm thinking on this deeply today as my last, oldest family member has left the bonds of this world. I am now the matriarch, I wonder where the time has gone...
Thank you for taking a closer look at my scenic route...I'm on an inner journey...

Oh my, I'm so sorry....what a beautiful tribute to this person. I love the idea of a sacred place. I'll have to think on that. Doesn't even have to be a physical space.

Amazing textures and a wonderful vintage look. She looks rather like something from Rembrandt. The embossed cardboard looks like a shard of old pottery.
Definitely an odd sensation when you realise that you're the oldest generation!
Not a stencil on my paste paper, I scraped into it with something when it was still wet. But I made it a while back, so I don't remember. Could have been a silicone scraper.

So sorry for your loss of your older generation. I ponder that same question of where has time gone and how did it pass so fast, and then the reality...I am quickly becoming the older generation of my family as well. My parents are both 92 and the oldest in both sides of the family and the only ones of their generations. After they are gone, I will take that place of rank as well. Love your messages you share in your art, and this one recognizing the "scared places" gives me a time of reflection.

What an awesome, well thought out card. Love your textures and hope this lady find her inner peace.I am sure mine is with my family. Just got to see my youngest a week or so ago for the first time since Christmas before last. That sure gave me peace. I am sorry for your loss. Life does move on quickly.

Yes. I can remember when I became the matriarch of the family.....it certainly gave me pause...Your card is so intriguing. I love the look on her face, and the embossed piece is stunning. Hugs to you, my friend.

I had a difficult time realizing that I am a member of the oldest generation of my family. In the last two years I lost my sister and oldest brother. I luv the sweet expression of this beautiful Lady!
