I like the way you've given them something on the ground to be pecking at! And the shadows are good. I agree, you can't overwork them and have to let them be. That's how I spoiled my second one that I was hoping to use for step-out photos. I've rescued one onto a tag and I've lost the other two good ones somewhere on my desk...
That apple green is a gorgeous colour!!
