You'd think I would have chosen Jane Austen or J.R.R. Tolkien. But I decided on Emily Dickinson, figuring not many would choose a poet. She was born in 1830, died in 1886, born into a prominent family in Amherst, MA. Little known during her life, she lived much of her life in isolation and was considered eccentric. She developed a penchant for white clothing and was reluctant to have guests or even leave her bedroom, depending on correspondence with friends and family. Very few poems were known before her death but her sister, Lavinia, discovered her more than 1800 poems and published them. Her poems were unique for the time...short lines, lack titles and unconventional capitalization and punctuation. She is best known for the poem 'Hope is the thing with feathers...'. I did include a few feathers I found outside. The die is a pocket die, which can be used in many ways. I really enjoyed using some old Basic Grey paper, added some to the inside and probably will add a few more embellishments there.
Did you know it is illegal to pick up feathers of any type? My brother and I both love feathers and pick them up frequently. I confess! I wouldn't pick up an eagle feather, even though I'd dearly want to, because you can into big trouble for that. I went to a raptor rehab place in northern WI a few years ago, there was a turkey vulture feather on the ground, I almost cried that I could not pick it up. I'm sure the law is in place so that we don't pick up endangered bird feathers. I think these feathers are from Mourning Doves. I thought it was appropriate since Emily Dickinson wrote about death quite a bit.

Jean, I’d say you outdid yourself with this gorgeous period art! The
Texture and patterns invoke the age of the Sylvia, the color hues are romantic. I am glad you chose Emily D. Yes, she was an eccentric, but her words and style are profoundly needed even today. I especially love the font you chose...it forces one to slow down and really let the words soak into your spirit! And using a BG paper for the bg...smile.
Perfectly placed and chosen accessories in the pearls at the top of the quote, the beautiful glittered trim, and the lovely feathers. I don’t know I have ever known you couldn’t taken a shed feather. Thank you for that.
Love the contrast and balance of this gorgeous card. Thank you, bfnm, for coming to the Sylvia Beach Hotel! We’re gonna have a blast.

Oh my goodness, I would have placed good money on a bet that you'd choose Tolkien! But I'm glad you didn't, this is beautiful and I really enjoyed reading the poem. What a neat die, and gorgeous with the embossing powders on it.
No feathers at all! Gosh, I often pick them up when I see them. It's sort of instinctive, isn't it.

This is so lovely! The poem is not one I've heard before. I like reading poetry one in a while. Your die with all the different textures and shines is beautiful!

Beautiful card and the feather is such a nice touch. (I had no idea it was illegal to pick up feathers. I like the bluejay feathers I find occasionally because of the colors.)

How pretty- love the medallion corners, your soft colors and beautiful poem. I did know you are not supposed to pick up and keep feathers..... sometimes it is hard to resist.

This is so elegant and classy with the white background and all the shimmer and shine of the die cuts and pearls. Love the poem and the floss-tied feather adorning this card, and I truly appreciated your description and the information it imparted. So interesting! TFS!

Beautiful in every way, Jean. The corner die cuts are perfect for this composition. I have many feathers I have found over the years. I consider them gifts from my bird spirits. This poem and card are certainly a gift from your spirit. Thank you so much.
