Polly challenged us to do something Asian inspired this week, as the cards we're making will be going to Vickie, who loves things oriental. I bought this Japanese paper doll kit about 4 years ago, then promptly forgot about it (blaming it on senior moments!). It languished in a craft box all these years, but thanks to Polly's challenge, I finally remembered that it existed. What I was pleasantly surprised with was that the finished paper doll has her arms outstretched - like it is ready to hug someone... and it reminded me of Debbie's write-up of how we Teapotters give paper hugs to those who need it - how fortuitous! So my card is, literally and figuratively, giving a paper hug to one of our own, Vickie.
The paper doll kit included everything needed - its kimono and obi are pink, so I get extra cookies! I tried to follow the instructions as best as I can, but I probably folded some parts wrong because her obi should not be that wide...it still looks cute, though. It can be detached from the card, so Vickie can use it as a bookmark or an embellishment for another project.
Thank you for jogging my memory and for the challenge, Polly!

Oh Gem, this is so fabulous. I love this sweet paper doll. The varied papers are so pretty and she absolutely does look she is ready to hand some big paper hugs -- PERFECT! Love the swiss dotted bg (alway love swiss dotted bgs), but the panel with the foliage is the perfect asian-themed backdrop for your sweet geisha. Kudos on your folding. I wouldn't have noticed the obi if you hadn't mentioned it and I don't think it is too big -- obis are big. Fabulous job. Adorable card.

What an amazing card you brought to life, Gem! Just perfect for an Oriental hug to Vickie. I especially like your monochromatic bg panel and the purple base. Just delightful! Isn't it fun when we find a head start on a project amongst our stashes. I recently experienced that myself.
Now off to shop in my studio...Thanks for your inspiration!!!
