Today's Free for All challenge was to use heat embossing. Unfortunately, my heat gun died half way through a project on Tuesday and as yet I have not been able to find another one locally! "Way back when", my introduction to embossing powders was to set them by laying the cardstock in an electric frying pan or on the bottom of an iron - an iffy process at best. But iron triggered my long ago purchase of Angelina Fibers and that you DO melt and set with an iron!
So I pulled out the Blue Ice fibers today, spread some on a sheet of parchment, covered with a 2nd sheet and melted and set with my iron. I cut the gossamer wings for my butterfly from that and then the overlay from black cardstock. Glued the two together, rolled the wings around pencil to give them dimension & lift then added some rhinestones to the body. I decided to utilize the rest of my melted fibers as the cocoon from which my butterfly was emerging. Glued it to my panel framed with periwinkle and stamped the Unity sentiment.
Sadly, it is hard to capture the true beauty of Angelina with the camera - the entire card just shimmers with iridescent colors (I think a bit of it shows on the wings . . . .)

Wow! The fibers are stunning! Thank you soooo much for sharing your process. The beautiful white and silver bits in the embossing powder I used on my card tend to blow away when I turn on my heat gun. I might try heating from underneath with parchment paper and a skillet next time! It might adhere the bits better and then finish it off with the heat gun. I love that stuff!
But back to your masterpiece, the fibers add so much interest. I love how the butterfly is breaking away! Beautiful artistry!

Wow Linda that seems nice stuff to work with, I'd never heard about these fibers before, and I love your card with the up flying butterfly, and yes I spot the sparkling on the wings

This is gorgeous, and I can only imagine how lovely it shimmers IRL. Not having a heat gun for heat embossing was a double blessing in disguise - you created this lovely butterfly card and we got to enjoy and appreciate your talent. TFS
