This card was made for Tuesday Morning Sketches Challenge #597 ( http://tuesdaymorningsketches.blogsp...tches-597.html ). I just got my new Stampin' Up! (SU) "Simply Succulents" bundle today and was excited about trying it. I absolutely love the background die! I started by die cutting the background out of a piece of shimmer white paper that I had covered the back with two-sided Scor-Tape so that when I removed the piece from the die, it would already have adhesive on the back. There are a LOT of pieces to this die, so removing them that are super sticky on the back got to be a messy process with pieces sticking all over my fingers! I used the Scor-Tape instead of glue because I didn't want any of those stray glossy dried glue spot on my background. I had to run the die through several times including using a metal plate to make it cut all the way through the Scor-Tape backed paper. But it was WORTH it!
After I adhered the die cut to a 4-1/4"x 5-1/2 panel of pink cardstock, I next went on to stamp and color the succulent elements using Copic markers. I then die cut them out. The taller "leafy" succulent didn't have a stamp to match, so I used a craft sponge to sponge all its edges with green ink to give it a more dimensional look.
The background for the plants was the circle element that is required in the sketch. I die cut a stitched circle and glued on the terracotta pot and the bottom part of the leafy plant (I left the upper part loose so they would have dimension). The larger plant was attached to the circle with a giant thick glue dot, and the smaller plant with a foam square.
The top horizontal element is two layers of green vellum stacked to make them darker. the rectangular pink element is a piece of pink vellum. I loved the die cut background so much that I couldn't bear to cover it over with solid panels! Finally the potted plant on the circle was attached to the card front using foam strips.
The sentiment is from the same stamp set, and was die cut with a label die from the succulent die set. The three green enamel dots were also required by the sketch challenge.
Note that when I attached the vellum pieces, I used a stencil brush to apply glue to the entire back of the pieces before attaching them to the card. I've found that doing this makes the glue invisible to the eye despite the vellum being translucent.
I am rating the difficulty level for this card as a "3" out of a possible "5" since the background die took so much time and patience, and the need to hand color the plants.
