This card was made for Tuesday Morning Sketches Challenge #594 ( http://tuesdaymorningsketches.blogsp...tches-594.html ). For some reason, when I saw the sketch I thought of dragonflies. One of my favorite colors is teal, so that started the basis of my card.
I wanted the dragonfly to be shimmery, so dug into my stash and found some metallic confetti glitter pieces. I sprinkled them in side a laminator pocket and ran the pocket through the laminating machine three times. I then stamped a dragonfly onto the acetate using black Stazon ink, and used a dragonfly die to cut it out. I hadn't thought ahead enough to realize that without any laminating pocket forming a boundary around my dragonfly (I had stamped so that the entire insect was over the top of the glitter), the two laminated pocket sides wouldn't stick together. So when I cut it out, I had glitter strips stuck to both sides of the pocket as two separate pieces. I got out my trusty Tombow glue and glued the two glittery acetate pieces together, and let it dry while I went on with the rest of the card.
I die cut a stitched circle out of thick white cardstock, and for good measure, ran the die and cut circle through my Big Shot a second time with a rubber mat underneath to make the stitched impressions nice and deep so they would stand out.
I die cut three floral clusters using the Stampin' Up! (SU) "Bouquet Bunch" die set. One was die cut from the aqua cardstock and the other two from white. I used a blending brush to add just a bit of color (SU Bermuda Bay) to make them show up against the white circle.
The front of the card has two 2"x2-5/8" panels glued to it. The left is SU Bermuda Bay cardstock which I had embossed with the SU "Softly Falling" embossing folder, the right half with a random aqua dotted pattern paper from the SU "Birthday Bonanza" designer series paper (DSP).
Once the dragonfly was dry, I glued the stitched circle to the card front, then used tiny pieces of adhesive foam tape on the back of the dragonfly to attach him to the circle. I glued the three flower clusters per the challenge sketch.
The final step was to stamp the greeting in the lower right corner using Memento black ink. The greeting is from the SU "Sassy Salutations" stamp set.
I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5". If you just stamped and hand colored the dragonfly, it would be a "2".
I think this card will be good to send as a friendship, sympath, or get well card.
