This hand-stitched card is part of a grouping of approximately 50 hand-stitched cards I made in an 18-month period, 44 of these were given to my Mom, a very talented and avid cross-stitcher in a large set of assorted occasions hand-stitched cards. All but 2 cards were created using my own stitched design and color combinations, and I will let you know when I use these two, so this is my own design.
I had been searching for several years to find a way to create cards using hand-stitching or simulating the look of hand-stitching, and up to finding this technique, I had not been satisfied that this was what I wanted for a set of cards for my Mom. When I watched a YouTube tutorial by Jennifer McGuire introducing hand-stitching using a Paper Smooches hand-stitching die (which I used for the A2-sized hand-stitched cards in this collection. That die is likely not available as Paper Smooches is no longer in business, but other companies like My Favorite Things, Simon Says Stamp, and Altenew, to name but a few have made their own hand-stitching dies), I knew that if I could learn to do some basic hand-stitching on these die-cuts, that I had found my way of creating the cards that I had been looking for years to find. Jennifer McGuire also taught some basic stitches and I have found a few patterns of my own, although my main goal now is to find new patterns and some more basic stitches to create more stitches.
I have enjoyed doing this lattice-type pattern in several of the 50 hand-stitched cards plus some newer ones that are in production now. I haven't seen this used on cards, but I have really loved its linear effect, and I have used it in several different ways in my cards. I particularly like the frame around two different lattice patterns, and this color combination is a favorite, I have really liked the combination of turquoise and green or a blue and green.
When I began this project, I had in mind that my Mom would be giving these cards to her crafty friends, and many of these cards have die-cuts of needles and thread, scissors, balls of yarn with knitting needles, etc. But I realized that not all of the people Mom would want to give one of these cards would be crafters, so in a number, I kept the crafty die-cuts to a minimum or didn't include any. This card front contains a knitting die-cut of yarn, but it's not overtly for crafters. I made a number of Praying for You type cards, because this covers many situations one would want to send a card.

Joann, your card is gorgeous. Love the colors you have combined on it. The embellishments go perfectly with it. Your cross stitching is beautiful. This girl tried doing this, but my mind is like a DVD player on fast forward, couldn’t keep up with counting. 🤪. I know your mom enjoys each and everyone of your cards.
