Yesterday I posted a blue version of this card and made reference to a brown version that didn't quite work and that I was going to try to salvage...well, I guess you just guessed where I got my name for this card, LOL. And, I think the bg looks like a piece of salvaged wood. The inspiration was this beautiful photo: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/617415430147202270/
For the bg, I covered a piece of white card stock with white gesso. When it was dry, I dragged the three DOX ink pads across the top to get the streaks. I ink blended a scrap piece of white card stock with Speckled Egg DOX then stamped the butterfly image, first with Speckled Egg then with Peacock Feathers. I also direct-to-paper inked a scrap with the brown ink for the sentiment die cut and with Speckled Egg DOX for the rustic border. Added clear novo drops that I thought would look like dew drops but turned out to look more like rusty water drops. LOL
In my original version, I stamped the butterfly only with Speckled egg and glued it onto the card. It just looked flat and blah and meh. So, I scrapped off the butterfly, added the border, restamped the butterfly with the darker color and added the nuvo drops. I was stuck with this layout because that sentiment die was firmly adhered and was staying put. But, all in all I am happy with the final result. I really love the way the bg turned out -- it looks better in real life -- so I am happy I found a way to fix it.
Hope you are able to salvage something today and turn it into something you enjoy. TFL.

Love the BG! It reminds me of weathered steel my Dad had in our garden, we all loved it! Perfection... Love the Nuvo drops. Butterfly perfect and the bold headline die cut is an excellent choice!
