Playing a little catch up, since the site has been so unpredictable. I always love to play in the MIX (time) so that's included, along with Brenda's VSN-comforts of home, and yesterday's WT-a fancy fold. I used the fold from Falliday, turned on its side. Wasn't sure it would work but I think it does.
As I was thinking about time, I was reflecting on changes in my life. My family has lived in this village for almost 100 years and I'm now the last one. My sister and I will have our last get-together tomorrow before she relocates 3.5 hours away for a new job and a new life at their lake place. We will be a blubbering mess. I think back to my grandparents, spending time with them in their home and was always so content in their house. I used to look through all my grandpa's collections, including books, stamps, coins and ephemera, that's what I chose for this card of time long past. The main piece is an ad for Dr. Morse's Compound Syrup of Yellow Dock Root, the best blood purifier...'cures all humors, dyspepsia, biliousness, constipation, piles, headache, liver and kidney diseases and is unsurpassed as an appetizer.' Right, snake oil. The middle panel is a calling card for a card store, greeting cards I'm guessing, also probably a florist. No idea where located. The top panel is the calling card of Mr. and Mrs. CW Shumway, no idea who they were. My grandpa bought box lots of old stuff like this, not sure why, except he probably liked looking at it. I did too. I still remember my grandma changing her dress in the afternoon, being 'at home to visitors.'
I mounted all this stuff, including some pieces on the inside, on top of some stash mixed media pieces, all stenciled with the same stencil and the same ink, which you'll see on the inside. I used some of my grandma's (or great grandma's) tatted lace to close it and attached a tag that was received from some seller on Etsy long ago. I've also included a couple of other pics of the inside and without the lace tie.
My childhood was pretty uncomplicated and I was always a homebody. I don't think it was a trend to constantly get together with friends go places together; I certainly didn't do so. When my daughter reached a certain age, she never wanted to be home, phone ringing constantly, making plans. I had a hard time with that. Good thing I've always been a content person, especially now.

I love that fold on its side! Enjoyed your bitter sweet tale. This is the time of year for remembering isn't it? More so this year than any I think. Best wishes to you for a healthy and happy new year!

All the little bits that you have given us a glimpse of and the story behind really came together in a beautiful Memoir type card! The tie and the tag are a great closure for it! Your sister may have a harder time of her leaving than you will remaining where you are. Wishes for all the best for both of you.

Beautiful with this fold on the side, and love your pretty scraps and lace!!, Yes I think you and I are not people to be in the busy world...my kids are all totally different, they like to go out, but I appreciate more the little things, a walk outside, seeing flowers and leaves change, smelling the different seasons, and enjoying a good dinner!!

I absolutely love your story about time. That’s what the Mix-Ability challenge was hoping to bring about. Thank you so much for sharing your process, what wonderful insight!

What a heart warming story, Jean! You are the keeper of your family legacy. I know I've been blessed with some of your Grandfathers' ephemera. I like the movement you've given the card by turning it. Calling cards...I thought that was a Southern tradition. I love how you used your fresh and original backgrounds to ground those detailed ephemera. Well done!
