Mixed Media is way out of my comfort zone but I decided to give this a try anyhow . . . therefore I really didn't have a cohesive plan going into this but hoped it would somehow evolve as I progressed.
I covered my watercolor paper with gesso and waited for it to dry then stamped netting and peacock feathers over the whole thing with Olympia Green. My lightest color acrylic paint is Petunia Purple which I quickly realized would be too dark so mixed it half & half with white to lighten it and brushed over my panel. While that was drying I went looking for my Metallic rub-ons.
Now, I like living in the desert southwest BUT no matter how well you think something is sealed it ALL dries out here. Out of 20 pots of metallic rub-ons only ONE was a little bit pliable. Luckily that was the rosewood which I think goes pretty well with the now dry acrylic paint.
By now I had decided to use the Unity sentiment about stars and dragonflies so thought it would be fun to add stenciled stars (I don't have a star stencil but had read it was easy to make your own with a die and acrylic sheet. Cut a starry bg from an acrylic sheet and set about stenciling chiffon stars on my project . . . .Ugh - I think my acrylic sheet wasn't heavy enough and I got alot of stencil paste bleed under my stencil. As it dried it gave a crackled effect around the stars so decided to forge on with what I had. Stamped both my sentiment and the dragonfly with more Olympia green - THANK YOU, Sabrina for the warning that all inks would stay wet if stamped on Acrylic paint because sure enough, I could see the Versafine INSTANT Dry ink sitting in a wet pool after stamping my images so embossed with Clear matte powder. Finished by edging my panel with Crystal stickles for a bit more sparkle & shine then mounted on the white card base.

I like the distressed lol of your stars, even if it wasn't what you were hoping for. Interestingly, I've had similar issues with a bought star stencil, maybe it's just that it's harder to get that shape filled. With paint you can stipple, not so much with paste. I really like it, I think you should try it again . And I'm glad the tip on embossing the top stamping helped!

You created a beautiful whimsical card! This technique is way out of my comfort zone and also not in my supply closet! So I will just enjoy viewing this week's TLC!

What a beautiful color! Your story is so much like mine, right down to the jars of dried out mediums (mine were pastes). I also had no plan, but I think a plan is impossible for this type of art. I luv your finished card - the gold is especially pretty.

That verse is divine, as is the sultry, dreamy background it rests upon. The feather and net peeking through are just right for the butterfly on top. No net can capture that fantastical beauty!

a few learning curves but what an amazing result! i find that cutting stencils out of cereal boxes gives me a better depth rather than plastic sheets. i had to laugh when i read that you live in the desert and everything dries out - i live by the ocean and nothing dries out lol. i luv seeing what you make - you are incredibly creative
