One of the things I struggle with is holiday themed cards. Somehow I just can't color a simple snowman or sponge a serene winter scene, which is why I ended up with this weird dragon in a sock. My inspiration it candy corn...something I eat often because my blood sugar drops and I need a quick burst of sugar. It occurred to me that candy corn may not be a hideous, unhealthy treat all over the world. Turns out that only us crazy Americans actually make it and eat it. It is mostly sugar, corn syrup and orange, red, and yellow dye....how unhealthy is that? Since I carry it with me always, it has to be indestructible. Unfortunately chocolate melts. The only things that will survive the zombie apocalypse will be cockroaches and candy corn. The colors really inspired me for the dragon.. Right away i colored the bg of this card in Christmas tree green to give it more of a holiday feel.. Then I realized that all the dragons i know are green and would not show up on the background.. The candy corn gave me the color idea for the dragon. I also included this for the CT1120 which is things we are thankful for, and I am thankful for finding the extra time each month to make a card for the F4A sample.
Thanks for looking,, Francie

I love your write up Francie and the description of those lollies LOL. Your creation, as always, blows me away. Your use of colour and how you have combine Copics with Sharpies is sensational. I had a big chuckle when I read that all the dragon's you know are green. Thanks for this months fun theme.

Great idea for a challenge. Love your colorful dragon. It has the colors of candy corn. I like candy corn too. Had to quit eating too many sweets and chocolate. Not good for some of my problems. Your coloring is always fantastic! Hope you had a great holiday. Our dinner is Friday with the family.

I had never heard of candy corn till I joined SCS. I guess it doesn't feature in the Peanuts - or if it does, unlike your mailboxes it totally passed me by. But the peppermint canes in the frame are instantly recognisable.
Popcorn strings are also definitely American! For a couple of years when I was small I got a monthly American educational magaziney thing and about the only two things I remember from it are a drawing of a Christmas tree garlanded with popcorn which puzzled me, and a diagram explaining how soap cleans your hands. I definitely don't think all dragons are green, I've always imagined Smaug as more brown/coppery. I always love your rich colouring, Francie.

Your card is gorgeous, both the colors and images. When I saw it in the list of samples, I wondered how you were going to connect it to food. Your dragon really does the job!

Great write-up and what a wonderful, colorful card! DH and I limit our candy corn consumption to October only, but we're sort of obsessive about it for that month, lol...

I never thought I'd see a pretty dragon .... but yours certainly is and I think it's a female with those lovely lashes! Great coloring and a fun write up!

Well, I am finally home so that I can comment and PROBABLY have to fix my post! I didn't know how difficult this stuff was on an Iphone, or maybe it's just me.
Anyway, your card is absolutely gorgeous! I SO love all the color and I love your dragon! Beautiful, beautiful!

Love your candy corn story! Your dragon card is beautifully colored and designed. I, too, have a problem with low blood sugar at times and never thought of keeping a supply of candy corn on hand!
