For Teapot Tuesday, we're reflecting on how we've felt this year. Even without a pandemic, this would have been a diffuclt year, as we relocated 5 hours away from where we were living and 8 hours from where I consider home. Meanwhile, our only child got got his first real job after graduating college, and he moved 8 hours in the other direction. We've gone from him being 90 minutes away at school to a plane ride away. Between being stuck inside, wearing a mask, and communicating by Zoom and Skype, I sort of feel like I'm looking at the world through a very reduced lens.
Now for deets on the card. I feel certain I saw a recent challenge to take out an unused background and use it, but I couldn't find the challenge. However, the background here came out of a drawer where it's been for ages. I'm not sure what exactly it started as (it's on high gloss paper), but I think I wasn't happy with it and sprayed cleaner on it for the mottled effect. There's some color added to the face with pencils--it looks a little like a hand-tinted photo. I added some snippets of ribbon and some acrylic do-dads. The card is a matchbook style which I came across while looking for something else and decided it was high time to use.

Sandy, this beautiful and you are right in thinking this challenge was designed to be more introspective. It sounds like you've had lots of change this year, which is never easy! Hugs!
I love that background and your darling girl looks like a hand-tinted black and white photo! I love the embellishments at the bottom of the photo! I think a lot of us can relate to the sentiment, too!

I love how this focuses on that face...we are all missing our favorite faces...Zoom just doesn't do them justice! I miss the hugs, too. Cute matchbook style and the little ribbons are just the right touch.

Thinking about missing your child being so far away shows with this face as well as the other comments you made about Zoom calls and all the other crazy things from this year. I love the BG. I had never thought about spraying bleach cleaner to mottle a BG before. Have to remember that. I do love the tinted look of the face! Great card!

Aww! This is a beauty! I love how it represents 2020 for you. So sorry that you are missing your child! That would be so hard along with the move you had to make as well. Our young graduate is at home and has sent out 90 resumes with no luck! I am hoping that any day he will get a job!

Your face has such a pensive look and perfectly depicts our mood. I feel your pain in being far from family. My only grand-daughter is a 3+ day drive and located in Canada's COVID hot spot. We facetime regularly but I long for in person hugs and kisses. Hopefully 2021 will be better.

I completely understand how you feel Linda. This sums up lots of how the year has been for me with actually seeing people. I live in a house with my MIL, husband and son but since I can't see friends and other family members I am feeling so detached from people. Great card and perfect for the challenge.

The mottled background is really beautiful. It's the kind of thing you'd like to be able to recreate. The framing of the face us lovely, and I like the ribbon tags.
I hope you can get a new bicycle at some stage. They're in short supply here too, so I was using DH's for the first three months and it wasn't the most comfortable experience.
Zoom is certainly better than nothing, but I miss being able to look people in the eye and share a smile.
