So the current challenge in my collaborative art journal project is to pick a holiday in each season and make a page. For Winter, I have chose St. Lucia's Day, which is also known as the Festival of Lights.
If you are unfamiliar with this tradition, girls dress in white gowns and wear a candle-lit wreath on their heads. There are processions through town, church services and other festivities. In the home, "Lucia" (usually the oldest daughter) serves coffee and baked goods to the family and guests.
The pictures are often these beautiful golden candlelight images and I wanted to capture that feeling on my page. I started with yellow cardstock and ink blended Rusty Hinge and Orange Marmalade for some variation and warmth. Since I can't draw a link I didn't want to attempt "candlelight", so I stenciled half circles and small dots to evoke the feel of candles glowing. Cut out the greenery to create the wreath. Used the leftover pieces from the MFT bg die for the candles. Cut random flame shapes from a scratch piece with some of the blending on it. Assembled and added the berries. The traditional greeting would be red, but I wanted to go with the Swedish national colors so I opted for blue.
My husband is the Swede (descent) of the family. Thank goodness it wasn't me. If I had had to wear candles in my hair I probably would have burned down the town like Mrs. O'Leary's cow. TFL and I hope you are having a wonderful day.

I read your fun write-up before I saw the photo.....what a great idea for your journal themes. This is so lovely Debbie, even if it is not what I expected.....Lucia with her hair on fire and a confused cow standing by. Stay safe my friend.

Love it! Your story how this beauty came to be from start to finish! It's beautiful, creative and perfect. The wreath is fantastic. The clean lines, stenciling and inking are fabulous.
