A friend of ours commissioned this card to send to her dad for his birthday. Her parents rescue dogs, and she said that most of them are larger. So she wanted a large dog on his card. I figured this Rottweiler puppy image I had would be perfect. I used the 2 digital images from Bugaboo & added a party hat line art digital image that I got from Pixabay.com on the dog's head.
I first created a blank "canvas" in Photoshop the size of the main panel in the sketch. I copied the 3 images onto that one at a time, resizing them to fit as I went. I positioned the layer with the dog in front of the one with the balloons. I also put the hat layer in front of the dog. I created the greeting also in Photoshop. Finally, I printed the image panel & greeting onto a piece of watercolor paper.
Because the lines of the party hat were thinner than the lines in the dog & balloon images, I used a black felt-tip pen to go over the hat. I also added a baseboard behind the dog & balloons. I used my watercolors to paint the image. I created an ombre effect over the greeting with green watercolor. As a finishing touch on the dog, I went over the eyes with a white gel pen, so they would stand out, and added in pupils with a black felt-tip pen.
I matted the image panel with navy cardstock, trimming it to a 1/16" border. I adhered a piece of patterned paper to a white card base, and added the 2 yellow strips as per the sketch. I adhered my image panel, and added the greeting banner over that to finish this card.
