I wanted to make an autumnal card, and thought this sketch might look neat with repeating leaves in fall colors. I decided to make the "focal" leaf different from the rest.
I die cut 7 maple leaves & 1 oak leaf from watercolor paper. I added Distress inks to my non-stick craft mat, spritzed them with water, and dipped each leaf into the corresponding color (Mustard Seed for the oak leaf & Abandoned Coral for the maple leaves). I dried them with my heat tool, cleaned my mat, and repeated the process with Fossilized Amber & Barn Door, to get darker areas on the leaves for more texture.
I started by gluing the center maple leaf. That die is a bit bigger than the squares in the sketch measure out to be, so I kind of had to snug them together. After I glued the first leaf, I glued the 2 on the top & bottom of it. I finished with the remaining 4 leaves. Then I glued the oak leaf in place.
I stamped my greeting with Doe ink. I cut 2 narrow strips of tan cardstock & adhered them to the top & bottom of my white card base. I adhered the 5-1/2x4" blue panel over the strips. That makes it look like it's matted, but doesn't waste a lot of cardstock. Finally, I tied a bow with jute twine, & used Ranger Multi Medium Matte to glue it in place on the oak leaf.
