This card was made to meet three different card challenges! One was a sketch challenge with an optional photo inspiration, another required a mode of transportation, and the third had a theme of "make a scene".
As soon as I saw the sketch with the mind of "making a scene" I knew I wanted to use my treasured 2004 Stampin' Up! (SU) "Loads of Love" stamp set that features a truck you can load with all sorts of items in the back,,, including pumpkins! Now that the pumpkin theme was set (also from the photo inspiration challenge), I looked for a matching stamp set and recalled the super cute 2006 SU "Thoroughly Thankful" set that has a multi-panel stamp featuring pumpkins and fall leaves. In that same set was a cute sunflower sentiment stamp saying "thankful for you". I had all my pieces required for the sketch, all I need to do was color them and cut them out!
The little green truck was my starting point. I colored it and its load of pumpkins using Copic markers. I started by cutting a panel of white cardstock onto which I adhered a piece of striped gray Washi tape that reminded me of a road. I dug in my stash of single stamps and found a wild grass stamp that I inked up with SU Pear Pizzazz and stamped along the road edge. I had used a blending brush with light blue ink to create the sky before I started, so now I felt the sky looked empty. So, dug some more and found a great fall-themed stamp of three ducks flying. I stamped it with black ink.
Next, were the other three panel elements the sketch required. I stamped the multi-panel fall stamp and colored the pumpkins and the leaves with fall colors, and trimmed them with paper snips to fit the layout. The final sentiment panel was created by stamping the sunflowers/sentiment onto a large piece of white cardstock, then coloring, blending a light blue sky, and trimming to match the sketch panel.
The card base is SU Calypso Coral cut to 5-1/2"x 8-1/2", and folded in the middle. I felt the large expanse of orange background was a bit overwhelming, so softened it by stamping the Stampabilites "Subtle Leaf Background using a dark brown ink.
When I assembled the pieces of the card I wanted dimension to it, so used adhesive foam strips behind the truck and the upper pumpkin panel. I then stacked and glued two pieces of thick white cardstock behind the leaves and sunflower panels.
I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5" due to the need to fussy cut the truck, and create the scene behind it.
I think this will be a great Thanksgiving card to send to relatives!
