I wanted to try the Carved Wood Technique and I wanted to see how it would look on a pre-colored background.
On the first card (flower); I used a panel from my stash that had been colored with Distress Inks (Shabby Shutters and Tumbled Glass -- I'm pretty sure). I embossed, scored and then applied a layer of Shabby Shutters ink per the video instructions. The flower was a gift from Karen (Art Deco Diva) which I colored and glued down along with the leaves and die cut love (3 layers). Popped that onto a dark green card base.
The second card (leaves) I started fresh with white paper. Embossed, scored, applied ink. I didn't like having the white so bold so I ink blended a bunch of Shabby Shutters Distress Ink to tone it down. Loved the fall colors showcased in the color challenge and that, of course, made me think of leaves. So three fussycut leaves and a banner were popped onto a medium green card base.
Observation: I think you get more of the "weathered" look if you start fresh. But, I like the look of both and will definitely use this technique again on some of my stash and non-stash papers.
I am submitting the leaf card for the Color Challenge. The leaves were stamped with old ink pads that I thought matched the challenge colors but not quite. And, again, there was too much white on the leaves, so I colored them over with Tombow markers. The "curry" leaf was colored with multiple pens and I think I got pretty close. Fingers crossed.
Hope you are "weathering" the day well -- I am more sweltering than weathering. So stay cool, stay safe, and stay inky. TFL

Both of these are beautiful! Glad to know that you can start with something pre-colored! I may use up some of my non-favorite stash of BGs by using this technique. Your leaves and flower really are beautifully done!

Those leaves were worth the effort to fussy cut, they complete a perfect card using this weeks awesome technique! Great job of combining the two challenges! TFS

That's funny, I think the bottom one is more weathered looking, because it's softer with more blending in the colours. Maybe the crispness of the leaves adds an illusion of freshness to the top one too, LOL. But they are certainly both lovely.
