The main card base & the pop-up cake tiers were pretty straightforward. The only really hard part was the folding for the explosion pieces at either side. I ended up having to "rewind" & watch that part of the video tutorial 3 or 4 times before I got everything folded & working right!
After I finally managed to fold & glue in the explosion pieces, the rest was easy. I decorated my "cake tiers" with more of the confetti paper. My brother always wants chocolate cake on his birthday, hence the Espresso cardstock for that. I wanted candles on the cake, but didn't have a die. The only candle stamp I had was too tall. So, I die cut two 4s from yellow cardstock with a "Caption Numbers" die (my brother will be 44 this year). I cut a small piece of Grafix DuraLar acetate, scored & folded it about 1/4" from one long side, and adhered the numbers to that with a glue dot on each. The numbers were kind of floppy, though, so I ended up die cutting 2 more & gluing them on the back of the first 2, sandwiching the acetate in between. I trimmed a bit of the acetate off the sides, closer to the numbers. I added 1/4" wide double-sided tape to the other flap of the acetate, & adhered it to the top of the cake. I figure that looks like those number candles.
I die cut the banner from white cardstock, then cut the pennants from scraps of colored cardstock, in ROY G BIV order. I trimmed off the excess bits from each pennant (I had had to use the full die), & glued them in place on the white banner. I glued that above my cake, & trimmed off the overhang at either end.
I cut a piece of white cardstock for the inside sentiment. I used a sentiment I found online, & formatted it in Photoshop. I printed that onto my cardstock, matted it with yellow, and adhered it inside my card. I must say, I am glad I stuck with this card, despite the difficulties with the origami folding of the explosion sections! Hopefully my brother will be equally impressed when he opens it.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! What a truly spectacular birthday card for your brother, he must have been absolutely thrilled with it. I love that patterned paper, great folds and you've matched it to the pop-up tiered birthday cake inside.
