This card was made for a sketch card challenge with an option challenge of making it look vintage. Since I LOVE the retired Stampin' Up! (SU) "Modern Mosaic" Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP), I chose to center my card around the lovely mosaic hummingbird pattern in the paper. All my colors were then coordinated with those in the bird.
I die cut two circles with the white one smaller than the orange one, then offset them and blue them in the upper left corner as a background for my bird. I created the bird by scanning it on my digital cutter, then adding 0.04" border around it before cutting it out. I then used the same bird outline to cut 2 more shapes out of heavy white cardstock so I could glue them to the back of the bird to make it have more dimension and to reinforce the thinner pattern paper since I wanted part of it to overhang the circles.
Both the yellow floral background pattern paper and the tiled mosaic border were cut from the same family of papers as the hummingbird.
The sentiment is from the SU "Bonanza Buddies" stamp set. I stamped it in orange, then punched it out with the SU "Modern Label" punch. To create a mat for the punched sentiment, using the same punch, I punched out a plain orange label, then cut it in half and glued both halves to the back of the sentiment by extending them just a bit beyond the white punch. The matted sentiment was attached to the card front using adhesive foam strips.
The final step was to glue the mosaic tile strip to the bottom of the yellow floral piece, then wrap a ribbon around and glue to the back. A simple knot was tied in a short piece of ribbon, and attached to the card with a mini glue dot.
I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5". The hummingbird can also be fussy cut using paper snips instead of digitally cut. The card can be used for any special occasion with the generic sentiment.
