Polly is hosting this weeks special teaparty for Melanie, friend of SCS'r Faye (FayeMakesCards). Melanie loves teaparties, so I hope she will like this teaset and doily.
The sweet little teaset was a "tickle" surprise from Miss Boo - thanks Jen. It was coloured with Prismacolour pencils, then fussy cut.
The background was fun and very messy to make. I started with a sheet of A4 cardstock that had already been coated with white gesso.
I have two doily stencils by Prima that had never been out of the packet, so Polly's challenge was perfect to give them an inking. Since making this card, I now have a lovely stash of weirdo arty stenciled doily backgrounds. I figure if you are going to get messy - then do heaps.
I applied the modelling paste thicker than you are probably supposed to, but I wanted an organic look rather than a neat look. This card was air dried as my first effort was dried with a heat gun. I must have had the heat too close, as the paste bubbled up and went pooof and splattered bits of paste everywhere. I didn't break or burn anything so that's a bonus.
Here comes the fun part. Using a little pipette I dripped a couple of drops of Doc Ph.Martins Indian ink onto the molded doily, then dripped a couple of drops of water on top of the ink spots. I tilted the card around a bit to get deep pockets of colour. I waited a few minutes for the ink to penetrate the paste, then I lightly spritzed water on the doily and very, very gently wiped the inky water all over the cardstock using a baby wipe.
As this last step was very watery and no extra ink was used, it gives a soft and muted colouring to the remainder of the gessoed card. Once everything was dry I repeated the ink process using a turqoise ink, but only applied to the doily area. It is much more vibrant in real life.
I hope you get a chance to get inky and send some teapotter hugs to Melanie. Thank you for looking. Stay safe.

Love all the inky shades of blue you have created in this card. The doily stencil is incredible and the perfect background for the dahlia flavoured tea in the pot and the matching teacups.

This is gorgeous Susie. I love the doily stencil and BG you created and thanks for the details. You’ve reminded me that I have a doily that’s never been inked up...I shall have to get it out one of these days. It goes so well with your lovely tea set. Keep safe and well my mate over East. We had our first real outing out today...the new norm way. TFS. Hugs

Wow. That stencilled doily background is amazing, Susie. I read your description a couple of times. Most of my inks are so old (think over 30 years) that it's hard to open them, but I'm going to have to try it to give this a go. I guess I could try with re-inker, but it might not be as concentrated.
Anne's comment about the dahlias maybe making the tea taste better made me smile. For the last three years I've been on a quest to find a good replacement for the leaf Earl Grey Tea I can no longer get. Marks & Spencer had a not bad one, but then they too stopped doing the leaf version. So I am down to one that I buy mail order or when I visit my sister, and it has lovely blue flowers in it as a bonus.
