This card began for the Tickle a Teapotter challenge but as I ended up playing in the dirt, it will also go into this week's CAS challenge.
This week's Teapot Challenge inspiration is about amazing flower collages created by a lady named Mary Delaney that are now in the British Museum. Check out her story on the Teapot thread. It's fascinating and I figured if Mary could start creating at 72, I could at least give someone a Tickle at my very young age of 29 *cough, cough*.
Mary's story reminded me of paper flowers that I once made with our poppets....grandchildren. I also wanted to have a go at making some flowers, doing some twirling and hopefully send someone a cheery hello.
I drew flowers on a piece of CS using one of my flower dies. Why? Because I am hopeless at drawing and I wanted them to look something like flowers LOL. I remembered from when I made flowers with our poppets that we started with a piece of paper folding it into a triangle and doing some cutting, so that is where it began. Some were die cut using a peacock die.yep..amazing what you can turn into petals.
There are 8 panels out of my stash used on this card. All panels except one were created using my gelli plate over the last few months. One was made using yupo paper and alcohol inks. Greaseproof paper or deli paper was also used on one flower. I knew these panels would come in handy one day and today was it!
I found the greaseproof paper to be the best for twirling my petals and wondered whether Mary had used something similar to this all those years ago too. It's very delicate and gives the petals a more realistic look. The Yupo paper was the hardest to twirl...there was no way that paper was going to budge so I added some CS to give it some depth. Out of all 3 flowers, it was the one type of paper I wouldn't use again for this technique, but hey we all have to start and learn somewhere.
Those flowers took me a few hours and today whilst crafting with my mate Gracie, also on this site, I added gold around the petals and drops in the centres. Phew, it wasn't that easy for someone as clumsy as me LOL.
Stems and leaves die cut several times and layered.
The Black BG is actually white CS. Dark grey tissue paper was laid onto it and clear gesso pasted on top. Once dry, I sprayed several dark inks ranging from midnight blue to black until I was happy with the effect. The crinkles in the tissue paper are all covered up but it is there.
Flower stencilled before popping on the flowers and stems, and gold wink of stella pushed through my TH stencil. Gracie can attest to this. The card sparkles in the light.
Sentiment stamped and tag cut and done.
Gosh I am always amazed with myself when I finally finish a card for the Tickle Teapot Party. I now just have to work out how I can get this posted next week without it being crushed but where there is a will....as they say...there is always a way.
TFL and come and join in on the Teapot Tickle Challenge each month. It is fun.
Happy day

Those flowers look super fun, Jayne, I'm sure they were great to make. I laughed at you saying you used the die as a template for flowers, that sounds exactly like what I would do. All those different background pieces you used create a real tapestry of colour and texture. Did you find the greaseproof paper worked? I have a small stash of deli paper sent to me by Stacy, but when I tried greaseproof in an attempt to eke it out, I found that the paint just all flaked off when I tried using it. Sounds as if you didn't have this problem, luckily. I bet there's super texture in the background from the tissue, and I loved the little bits of stencilling you added.

I am gobsmacked, Jayne! You channeled Mrs. D. in a throughly modern way. I’ve already scrolled up and pinched the screen to see better at least a dozen times...I love contrast the of scale with the stems and blossoms, the marvelous black texture background, the doodling, oh the doodling! The die cut leaves...one lucky teapotter is going to be thrilled when this arrives on their doorstep. I am glad you enjoyed Mary Delany’s art, wouldn’t it be a gas to have her join us?

Jayne, I am beyond impressed with these gorgeous flowers you made from hand using different papers. I would have no idea where to begin to do something like this so I am just delighted to see this today. You really took your cue from Mrs. D. and ran with it in the most delightful manner. Your stenciling and doodling are so graphic and bold and offset the softness in your flowers so beautifully. ~Karen.
