Several years ago, my mom & I went to McAllen, TX, which is in the Rio Grande Valley. When we went out the first morning we were there, I heard this weird bird call coming from the trees. Turned out, they were wild parrots! For some reason, I had never realized that parrots lived in the wild, and certainly not in Texas. This challenge brought up that memory, and I decided to add a parrot as the unexpected element to my woodland scene.
I stamped the trees with Soft Granite ink. I wanted them to be there, but still in the background, hence the light ink color. I used the "Cloud" stencil with Broken China to do the sky behind the trees, then inked the ground with Bundled Sage.
I stamped the parrot & branch with Soft Granite onto a scrap of smooth bristol paper, & used my Tombow markers to color them. I die cut them with the coordinating dies, and used foam tape to adhere them to my main panel.
I felt the foreground needed a bit more interest, so I die cut another scrap of bristol with the "Grassy Hillside Borders" die, and inked it with Bundled Sage. I stamped my greeting on that, and adhered it directly to my panel. Finally, I matted my panel with grey cardstock, and adhered it to a white card base.
